Password recovery checklist: step-by-step

Forgetting a password is common, but knowing the right process turns account recovery into a two-minute task instead of a headache. This checklist walks through the steps and the mistakes that most often slow the process down.

Step 1: find the password reset option

The login page usually has a “Forgot password?” link. Click that rather than guessing repeatedly, since several failed login attempts in a row can trigger a temporary account lock as a security measure.

Step 2: use the registered phone number or email

Reset codes are typically sent to the phone number or email tied to the account at registration. If that contact information is outdated or no longer accessible, contacting support directly is the only remaining path.

Step 3: use the code before it expires

Most reset codes carry a time limit, usually 5 to 15 minutes. Waiting too long to enter the code means it will expire, forcing you to request a new one.

Step 4: make the new password stronger

When setting a new password, avoid reusing the old one. A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols is harder to guess and helps keep the account secure going forward.

Common mistakes that drag the process out

  • Mistyping a digit or the country code when entering a phone number.
  • Missing the reset message because it landed in a spam folder.
  • Clicking a reset link multiple times, which can invalidate it on some systems.

If following these steps still doesn’t resolve the issue, see our full login help guide for further troubleshooting.
